FOUL/FAIR BALL

2016/7/15 17:50:52

Question
FAST PITCH SOFTBALL HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL---   Pitched ball is batted into the air and lands untouched immediately behind the pitchers plate and spins into foul territory.

Answer
Thanks for the question!

I'm going to assume the ball went foul on the third base side, but this rule holds exactly true for first base as well.

It depends on which side of third base the ball went foul.  If it goes foul on the infield side of third base (the side between third base and home plate, then it is a foul ball.  If it hits third base itself or rolls past third base on the outfield side (between third base and the fair pole), then it is a fair ball.

This rule is universal for all of softball and baseball.

I hope this helps answer your question.  If not please reply!
