Question
Hello Mr. Antley i have a question about my hitting. Everytime I get up to bat i can never make contact with the ball, but when i am in the batting cages or drilling i hit almost every one. Do you have a suggestion for me to help inprove my batting?

Answer
Hello Sarah, Thanks for the question.

Pitching machines are too predictable. The pitching machine generally throws a straight ball at the same speed from the same location. Pitchers on the other hand throw balls with movement and at different speeds so they are more difficult to hit.

Study the pitcher before your at-bat. Watch her release point and other clues on the types of pitch she is throwing.  After stepping in the batters box keep your head straight, with your eyes focused on the release point of the ball (the side of the pitcher's leg, for example). This should help you "see" the ball quicker.
