To make sure that all my readers young and old can understand some of my comments, I have chosen to use simple vocabulary words and interpret the rule for this sole purpose.
What is a volleyball overlap in a volleyball rotation.
A volleyball overlap (a player out of rotation) is considered to be a fault that happens when a player is not in their right position before the ball is served.
What happens in an overlap fault?
The team serving the ball will loose a serve. This is called a loss of service.
The receiving team receives both the point and the opportunity to serve.
Volleyball Rotation Faults ?2 Types
Type 1: - Row Position Fault ?a fault in the same row.
Example: Middle front passes either the left front or right front
This could happen in the back row also.
Type 2: - Back Row and Front Row Position Fault.
Example 1: Middle back is in front of the Middle front and passes either the left back or passes the right back
Example 2: Mixture of players in the front, back and side to side
Middle Front and Middle Back - players in the middle front or back have to worry about 3 players
Review 1: if you are in the Middle Front you cannot pass the players to your left, back and right.
Review 2: If you are in the Middle Back you cannot pass the players to the left, front and right
All OTHER Players
Review 3: All players who are on the side only have to worry about the players to their sides in front or in back of them. You only have to worry about 2 players.
The best way to show you this is to send you a picture on the rotation of all players and their serve receive positions.
I have color coordinated the front row players (in green), back row players (in blue) and the player position (in red). This will help you see where all back and front row players are through out their rotations and in serve receive.
