Jump Serving: What am I doing wrong?

Question
Hello, Tom I have a question.
I've been working really hard on my jump serves and I just seem to be missing some things. When i do my motion, i step with my left and toss, then I step right left and hit it. I have a good top spin in over hand serves and when I make good conection, it shows through on my jump serves. I work really hard on my timing and and the hit. But something just is not clicking with me and the ball. I would love it if you could help me out in any way. If you want any more information if I didn't give you enough, please let me know and I will give you more information.

Answer
Hello Monica and welcome to www.allexperts.com!

Jump spinner serves.  They're really hard to execute, hard to control, hard on your body, etc.

The only thing in your correspondence that I have a comment is your footwork.  You do left, toss, right, jump?  That's pretty unusual.  I believe the typical footwork is left, toss, right, left, jump.  The footwork and armswing of a jump spinner is pretty much the same as a spike.  What's different is that the toss is over your head, or even a little behind you.

How about sending me a video of your jump serve at [email protected]?  After I see you serve 3 or 4 times (from the side and from either behind or in front), I should be able to figure out what's you're doing wrong, if anything.  You maybe doing nothing wrong, but you just need more reps.  It's a very hard serve to control and to master.
