DIEING to get back in the game again!!!

Question
Hi Tom, my name is michelle and i have been playing volleyball since i was about 13 years old and now i am almost 17. i made the JV in 8th grade and varsity in sophmore year, i have been told many times by elite club team coaches and my high school coaches that i have alot of potential as a player. i have been known for my power at a young age because i was able to hit a volleyball almost 50 mph at 15 years old with barely any physical training. yet this much power and a body not strong enough to handle it i injiured my back and shoulder to such a painful extent where i had to quit the varsity team beginning to halfway through the season as a sophmore and i havent been able to play since. i really want to play again! and now i am coming into my junior year of highschool and tryouts are about 3 1/2 weeks away.. i dont know whether to try to get into shape within the next 3 weeks with extensive conditioning or to just wait until senior year to play because of my injuries considering i may not be prepared enough in 3 weeks. im not in shape because ive been out of sports since the end of spring so i dont know if 3 weeks is enough to strengthen my back and shoulders. i just really need to play, ive missed it soo much and i know i have a lot of potential and that i could take to the next level if my body were strong enough. i just cant sit around and watch the team play without me again especially this year because the seniors from last year have graduated and that would give me an oppurtunity to play like i know i can!

ps. haha im sorry i practically wrote you a novel but i just dont know what to do! thanks in advance for answering my question!

Answer
Michelle:

Hello, and welcome to www.allexperts.com!

a)  In my bio, I say I'm not an athletic trainer, so I can't tell you what to do about your health issues.  I'm sorry. I could give you some suggestions, but it would be like me telling you how to get better at soccer.  haha  No, you're better off asking the soccer expert here at www.allexperts.com!  :)  So, is there a physical therapist expert?  Is there an athletic injuries expert here?

b) You've been off the team since Oct of 2008, and you're just now deciding to get back into it?  I wish you would have made this decision 3 or 4 months ago.  Now, it's up whether your parents can make some appointments with some athletic trainers or physical therapists AND whether those professionals can work you into their schedules at such short notice.

But you're normal......and you're learning that when you wait too long, it's often too late to get what you want.  "The early bird gets the worm" is an accurate expression.

What else can I do for you?  I hope that you have time to visit me at www.coachhouser.com.  I think you'll love the smiling faces!  And I think you'll enjoy the pics of the NINE summer vball camps that we did.
