Question
I have a Heddon #20 split bamboo rod 2 1/2 LPT 8 1/2 ft weight without locking reel 4 3/4 oz patent # 1807078 I have the cloth bag it slides into and the metal storage tube that has Heddon on it. Can you give me an approximate price for this item. It is in Excellent condition. Thank you.Lloyd
Answer
Lloyd,
I am assuming your rod is bamboo (flat sided) and fly (reel seat above cork handle). If not none of the following is accurate.
Price book: Antique & Collectible Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (2nd edition 2000) add about 30% for age of book.
Homel gives the #20 "Bill Stanley" Heddon fly rod 8 1 /2' with an extra tip, 3 sections the value of $70, 165 and $295 for poor, good, excellent condition respectively.
A qujicl look at ebay confirms these numbers.
If you rod shows any wear it is not in excellent condition including thread , straight sections, loss of finish or lettering etc. (everyone who asks me questions on this site tells me their rods are excellent , mint , like new etc. condition, very few are accurate)
Luck,
Mac
