homemade hair jigs

Question
QUESTION: Marc, I saw your hair jigs in March's In-Fisherman. They look great. I want to try them for browns and smallmouth. How and Where can I buy some? Direct from you? Very hard to find a web site or email direct for you. Please email back with information. Thanks, Jim, New Mexico

ANSWER: Hi Jim,

I just make them for myself and have never sold them.  That said, I have received so many requests for them that I am considering the possibility.  I currently sell another lure that I make and that one alone keeps me swamped most of the season.

What I have been doing is taking names and contact information.  After I see what comes out of this months article, I will see if I can offer them to the public.  I will contact you through this forum.

Thank you for the interest.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick response Marc. If you decide to bring your hair jigs to market, I'd be happy to show them around to tackle shops here in the southwest. As far as I know we don't have any gobys out here, but we have sculpins. Gobys or not, your jigs in 1/8 & 1/4 size look like they'd catch browns out of the Chama and north Rio Grande and I'd bet the same jig in 1/4 & 3/8 would do well with our small mouth at Navajo Lake and Ute Lake. Anyway, keep me in your tickler file and email me if you decide to try the market. Thanks, Jim

Answer
Thank you Jim,

Yes, there isn't much of a difference between a Sculpin and a Goby.  In fact when Gobies first started to show up in Lake Michigan my first thought were, "Man, there are a lot of sculpins around all of a sudden". Then our fisheries people started to realize that they weren't sculpins.  The rest is history.

I appreciate the information and I will certainly keep you posted.

Thank you!

Marc
