Value of vintage rods

Question
One is a Berkshire fibre glass spinning rod, medium action, No.1425, 7', Made in USA by Horrocks Ibbotson Co. in Utica NY. It is a 2 pc. rod all cork handle 10&1/2" long. It is in a black tube with a screw on cover. The label on the rod says MOHAWK "H-I" the company and address and is hand signed Berkshire and hand printed 1425-7'.

The second one is a hexagon bamboo 3 pc. rod,(2 same end & middle  pcs). The label on the rod reads SUNLIGHT M.K.K. Made in Tokyo Japan. Another paper label is on the cork handle reads T.A.141.

The third is similar to the second but has no markings and only 2 end sections of the rod. It is housed on a velvet dowel with the eyes of the rod facing the center of the dowel and is in a tattered cloth sack.

Any help will be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Dick,  I can shed a little light on these rods:

The H-I Mohawk fiberglass spinning rod in excellent/mint condition is valued at no more than about $40.  A Very Good used one probably around $20-25.  This depends on the actual condition and the interest of the potential buyer.

Most of the rods made in occupied Japan sell for $40-75 with an occasional one selling for $100 or more depending on quality and condition.  There are quite a few brand names for these rods and most come with a balsa wood box and some tackle.  Some of these are actually fun to fish with, but most are pretty average production line rods.

It is hard to tell what the third rod might be so this is all speculation. But with it missing a section, it probably isn't worth too much.  If it is good quality bamboo that someone can use to complete another partial rod or that is worth building or locating a replacement piece for, it could be worth $40-50 to the right buyer.  If it is a lower quality rod, it could be worth only $10-20.  The fitted form indicates to me it is an older rod if it is original to the rod itself.  The lack of markings indicates it is probably a lower quality production rod.  Without more information it is really hard to say what you have.

Thanks, Joe
