Horrocks-Ibbotson Cane Rod History & Identification

Question
I too have a 3 piece rod in a tattered cloth bag. My rod has President (I'm sure it's the model) to the right of the label. The rod itself is in very good condition. It is aprroximately 9.5 ft. long. The logo is green with a yellow center with the H-I in a diamond in the center. Any help with a history of this rod would be very helpful and thanks.

Answer
The President was upper part of the line at HI in the 20s . Horrocks-Ibbotson rods are looked down upon by the collecting community  and often are justified. They were mass produced , rather heavy and very slow.

You can read about the history and get an idea of their value in the following books:

Antique & Collectable Fishing Rods: Identification & Value Guide Homel, Dan. 1997 (please note the President  model is not mentioned in this book.)

Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook -Michael Sinclair
available at major libraries.
