salt water fishing in maui

Question
Hi there Jim... i have done some surf fishing in sanibel island fl. and caught whiting, shark, snook, and tarpon; using sand fleas, live minnows, or just a chunk of fish for the shark.  i have done the same in rocky point mx. and caught trigger fish and rock bass off of cut bait.   this summer i am going to Maui.  the beach we are staying at is a private beach, and form the pitures it looks like there are almost no waves because it is in a bit of a cove.  what kind of fish could i catch from the shore, and how could i go about it.

Geoff

Answer
Use the same tactics you used in the surf in the Atlantic. You may catch Dorado / Mahi Mahi or any number of shallow water fish. There are a few fish in the Pacific you don't find in the Atlantic, but not many and the shore fish are very similar. No Redfish, Snook or Tarpon, but you will find other fish of similar type. I am more of a freshwater guy. Have fished the Atlantic but not the Pacific.
There is some freshwater fishing in Hawaii..
