Heddon Fishing Rod

Question
I have a 5 1/2' fiberglass Heddon fishing rod that has an all wood handle and grip except where you put the reel on. It also has a rubber piece at the end of the rod. It has a sticker on it that reads "Heddon Perfect Action" and "Global Area Tested". There is a 9801 marked on the rod also. I can't seem to find any information on it and all the ones I find seem to be bamboo fly rods or cork handled. Just wondering what it might be worth and maybe the year it was made. Thank you so much for whatever info you can give me!

Answer
Hi Dawn,

What you have described is a boat rod used for bottom fishing in saltwater.  It may or may not come apart at the reel seat which would make it easier to transport.  These rods were very popular on both coasts and for many fresh water applications as well.

It was probably made in the 1930s-1940s time frame.  There does seem to be a growing new interest in this type of rod which is good for the value.  Value on the rod would likely be in the $30-$90 range depending on actual condition of the rod.

Thanks,  Joe
