J.C. Higgins Fly Fishing Rod: Age, Value & History

Question
I just bought a J. c. Higgins fly fishing rod. It metal and as the rod is extended the links appear to be copper. The number on the pole is 3026. I would like to know how old the fly fishing rod is and if there is any value in it. I would like to take it fishing, but if there is any real collectors value I will hang it on the wall.

Thanks
Richard

Answer
Richard,

JC Higgins is the name for Sears line of fishing tackle. Sears didn't make their tackle, but based on your description it may be a Bristol rod.

Regardless, steel fishing rods were low cost high volume items in their day, thus they don't generate tremendous collector value. Your safe to fish with it. ($5-$15 range).

Keep me in mind if you have any old lures.

Bob
