Trolling motors

Question
I am aware that internal combustion outboard motors may be used in salt water if they are flushed out with fresh water. I am in the market for an electric trolling motor. If the motor is run in a bucket of fresh water after each use in salt water, can I save money by purchasing a fresh water model? Thank you, Joe

Answer
Hi Joe, thanks for the question.

You can use a freshwater trolling motor in saltwater but it wouldn't really last. even if you flush it after every use since they are nmot as sealed as saltwater models, the materials they use don't resist corrosion as much as saltwater models.

in the long run, it wont last, but this depends on how much you use it in the salt, it wont hurt if you dont use it too often in saltwater.
