Basa fish, scientifically known as Pangasius bocourti, is a freshwater fish. It is native to the Mekong River basin in Southeast Asia and belongs to the family Pangasiidae, commonly known as shark catfish or iridescent sharks due to their large dorsal and pectoral fins. Basa fish inhabit various types of freshwater environments including rivers, lakes, swamps, and canals. They prefer warm waters between 26 to 31 degrees Celsius (79-88 degrees Fahrenheit) and can tolerate a wide range of water conditions, including murky and nutrient-rich environments.
