Fixing Low Shots with Woods Off the Fairway: A Golf Guide
Question
I have no trouble getting my ball into the air and getting good distance when hitting off the tee or hitting my irons off the fairway. When hitting my woods off the fairway, I inevitably hit a low grounder which rolls forever. What can I do to get the ball into the air off the fairway with my woods?
Answer
Hello Lorraine, i will hopefully make it clear why. Firstly a lot about how a wood will play from the fairway is the lie, if it is bare than it will be difficult to hit it high, if there is plenty of grass under the ball then it will be easier. Secondly it depends on how deep the clubface is from top to bottom, you may wish to try out a shallower faced club, like the new rescue/utility/hybrid clubs around, this is because the contact with the ball is more towards the middle, whereas with an iron it is more towards the bottom of the ball, so a shallower club face will probably help more.
