QUESTION: Hello,

I was wondering if you knew anything about the brand "alibi" manufactured by the Zumiez board shop franchise. This is not the same as the Atomic Alibi. Basically I just bought a board from a guy and I thought it was an Atomic, but really its this other brand. I am wondering if the board is decent at all?

ANSWER: Hey Ryan,

Alibi is made for Zumiez by a large board manufacturer (not sure which one). They are decent boards for beginner/intermediate riders. What little I've read of them, most owners are pleased with them. There is a bit of confusion about the 'Atomic Alibi' and Alibi boards. The Atomic is a great all mountain board that gets high marks. People often confuse the Alibi brand with the Atomic model. But, give the board a try and if you don't like it, turn it over and find something that suits your needs.

QUESTION: So I have this 158 cm Zumiez Alibi board that I got from Craig's list. Bascially I thought it was the atomic, and didn't realize it wasn't until I had already bought it. It looks like I may be able to get a Jamie Lynn Lib Tech 160 for the same price, and sell this board. I am 6'2 and 145-150 lbs. I also usually just ride park/smaller resort slopes. The Jamie Lynn board is also older than the Alibi. DO you think I should try to make the switch? Also, I am questioning the width of the board. I have about 1-1.25 inch of hangover on both the heel and toe. I totally forgot about this aspect before I bought the board. Do you think this is too much? The guy that owned the boots (size 12) and setup before said he didn't really have a problem with it.

Hey Ryan,

The Lib Tech is probably the better board but being older, the question would be, 'How much life is left in the board?' What is the condition of the base? You would have to do a thorough inspection of the older board to determine its condition.

As for the width, it would depend upon the shape of your boot sole at the toe and heel. Many boots have a sloping toe and heel to minimize drag during hard carving turns. If your boots are this style, then it may not be a problem. Also, are you able to move your bindings a little more to the heel side? Rarely will your heelside be on an edge far enough to drag the heels, where as the toeside quite often will get the toe dragging a bit.
