Snowpants

Question
So I'm buying some new snowpants online, and without being able to actually see/feel them, I'm not sure what I should be looking for. I'll be at Vail for the season, and I want to make sure whatever I buy will remain waterproof and offer a little warmth when I'm at the top. The specs that sites list don't mean anything to me, such as "twill" or the measurements of waterproofing. I was wondering if you could tell me what specs I should be looking for to remain dry and warm.

Answer
Hey Sean,

For snowpants you are going to want something rugged that will hold up well. Look for Cordura either in the whole material or possibly on the knees and seat. A very tough fabric that withstands lots of wear. Goretex is the best for waterproof material. There is a new rating system out that is easy to follow. 10,000 rating is the most waterproof. Look for breathable materials and vent zippers for all season comfort. You want to stay warm and dry during the cold stormy times and dry and cool during the spring/sunny days.

If you are shopping online, go to the product manufacturers website for more technical info and look for a dealer near you. If there is one nearby, go check out the item you are looking at and get ?'s answered by a knowledgeble sales rep. They can better explain the fabrics and ratings. You should also be able to get this info via email from the website. Also check the prices to see if they compare to the online price. If close, buy it there and you have a direct customer service locally. If the price is way different, then buy online. Just remember that any customer service will be via phone and mail.

Hope this helps.
