a small fear to get over

Question
Hey Cynthia I'm an excelent skier but I have one little problem I sometimes get up on the moutain and I get a little scared not deathly afraid just a little scared I was wondering if there was anything I could do so I could trust myself and know not to be afraid. thanks it would be a big help.

Answer
Dear Laura --

I actually have a similar issue when I am entering the steeps bumps.  My nerves flutter and I doubt myself.  The way I beat this is to give myself permission to stop on the run.  I say, okay, three turns and then stop.  So I start into my three turns, and if it feels good I just keep going.  If not, I stop, and relax my breathing, and do three turns, ready to stop again.  These days I am able to just think, "okay, get the three turns under your belt" and plunge in.  I very rarely have to stop anymore.

Any routine that helps you relax, and gives you permission to enjoy the challenge, without needing to be perfect, should work for you.

I hope this helps you.  Think snow!
