waxing my board

Question
I'm pretty new to snowboarding, and this past year I bought a K2 juju slim, but anyways, I am wondering how often I should have my board waxed and the edges sharpened. My board does have some lines down the bottom where the wax has worn away alittle. I am hoping to board more this next winter and I don't know when to have my board waxed, since I don't know how to do it myself. If the wax isn't too worn but there is some gauges in it, do I have to pay to have the whole thing redone? Thanks.

Answer
HI Allison,
Knowing when to wax our board is really easy. There are a few way to tell when your board needs to be waxed. The one i mainly use is I usually wax it once a week because i ride 5 times a week.   But when i ride, I ride hard and all mountain.  Another good way to tell is by judging when your starting to go slower on the board, that is usualy a god sign on when to get it waxed.  You go slower because the wax has fallen off o the board.  And finally, you should look at the base of th board from all different directions. If you sart to see bare spots appearing, that is another warning sign for when to wax your board.   The gouges you see on the bottom o your board arent from ls of wax.  Thy are scratches put in the baseof the board by running of ice chunks, rocks, etc.   When you take the board to gt it waxed/tuned, they will fill those holes in wit P-Tex.. its the plastic that the bottom of the board is made of.  And finally, I usually sharpen my edges everytime i wax the board.
