Girl wrestling

Question
My names Hailey, I'm 15, 5 foot 2, and weigh some where between 125 and 135 and i recently transferred schools toward the end of freshmen year. i have only wrestled one year at my last school which was a 3A school. i was varsity, only because i was the only one in my weight class. I'm very aggressive but I'm not to strong. i wrestled 130 then went down to 125 and down again too 119. at one 119 it was easier but i want to go farther down to 112, i think I'd do pretty good there. there is only one problem. i moved to a 5A-6A school. i don't know to much about it but i have heard that the coach doesn't like girl wrestlers and tends to work them harder. i usually never base my opinions on what I've heard, i like to find out for myself. it has also been said that he tells girls you can pay the fee and  be considered part of the team but he wont let you wrestle tournaments. so i have a couple of questions. can the coaches really not let you wrestle because your a girl? if you pay and everything? and second there are a lot of girls who want to wrestle with me so if they don't let us wrestle, can we make a club or an all girls team that is still associated with the school? I'm not very good at wrestling but i really love this sport and I'm sure i can get better if i go down to my desired weight class. another thing is, i have bad knees. my knee cap slides out of place, even in a brace, then swells up and hurts to walk on. but it only happens when i run to long or i wrestle with wrestlers, who people have called, "sloppy wrestlers" and wrestling sloppy wrestlers is inevitable. so i was wondering if there is a certain exercise that can strengthen my knees so i can get better with out interruption or having to sit out because of my knees.

Answer
Most of your questions are legal questions. I would say that yes, coaches do discriminate on a constant basis and more so if you are a girl. They will train you harder then most guys because they know that when guys wrestle a girl, they try harder not to lose. You will get your butt kicked because these guys just don't want to lose to a girl. That's just the plain fact. I have never heard any coach not letting a girl wrestle before though. I am sure you could make a legal case out of it for discrimination. Of course this is if you are varsity. If not, then they can go ahead and keep you on the sidelines as JV. This is totally not out of the question. If you are the only girl in that weight class and they still sideline you then you can make it a case. If you can PROVE that they did it because you are a girl, then there is for sure a case there.

As far as an all girl wrestling league, I have not heard of one. I do not know if it even exists to be quite honest. All I have seen one league for men and women. I'm sure you could make a club but as far as competing with other schools, that is a different story. A club is different from a team.

As far as your knees, I would think that if you go to your school trainner, he'd be able to help coach you through what you have to do in order to prevent the knee caps from slipping. I suggest you take a walk down to his office. I am a bit concerned about giving you advice other then that as I have never known any of my friends to have that problem. So sorry I can not help. Of course your doctor could also suggest some ways to strengthen it. When you go in for your regular check-up, go ahead and ask him or ask him to recommend a trainer. I hope this helps. Good luck.
