How To Size Ski Pants

2016/7/23 15:52:23

Figuring out how to size ski pants can be a bit tricky, as different brands of ski wear use different sizing methods. Someone with a 37 inch waist may be a large or extra-large depending on the manufacturer, for example. Always check the sizing chart for the brand of pants you’re considering as a starting point for sizing ski pants. Ski pants are usually available in standard sizes, small, medium, large and extra-large. Youth sizes and plus sizes are also available in many stores.

  1. Decide whether you would like insulated or non insulated ski pants. This depends on personal preference as well as the weather and how many layers you prefer to wear under ski pants. Pick a pair of ski pants in a likely size as a starting point, and measure the inseam with ski boots on to get a more accurate measurement, as the length needed may be different in ski pants because of the way the pants will fit over ski boots. Inseam is measured from the crotch to the floor. For a more modern look, add an inch to the inseam.
  2. Pick materials and features for your ski pants. Ski pants are available in nylon, polyester and microfiber. Microfiber tends to be a bit pricier. Choose ski pants that are water resistant and breathable. Many ski pants also claim to be wind proof, which can be really nice if you’re skiing in a very cold location.
  3. Choose pants that are roomy and easy to move in, but not too big. Some ski pants have zippers that can allow boots to be put on and off easier, and venting systems for cooling down and letting moisture out. When sizing ski pants, also take into consideration whether ski pants have a reinforced knee and seat area, especially important if you tend to fall down often. Some ski pants also come with suspenders. This may not be the coolest look, but it is helpful for keeping pants up and in place, especially if you like the pants a little baggy.

Sizing ski pants can be time consuming, but it’s worth the extra time to try on different brands and find a pair that fit well and are comfortable.
