Ski Northstar-at-tahoe, Lake Tahoe

Northstar-at-Tahoe is another favorite! The resort is located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, just a little over an hour from Reno, Nevada. In recent years, hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested to make Northstar a classier resort, complete with a new village featuring a Variety of shops, restaurants, boutiques, luxury condominiums, and a 9,000-square-foot skating rink. The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, situated mid-mountain at the resort, opened in December 2009.

The skiing is mostly of the intermediate variety, especially around the front side. Experts should head to The East Ridge, The Backside, or Lookout Mountain. The trails on the backside are steep from top to bottom, long, and groomed. The backside alone is enough reason to head back to Northstar! If you're looking for some drops and bumps, you're better off hanging around Lookout Mountain where the terrain is much more unpredictable. 1st timers will want to stick to the areas around the gondola on the front side and trails around the Arrow Express.

When you're done skiing, the area around the ice skating rink in the center of the village at Northstar is a great place to grab some beverages of choice and relax on the sofas, or check out some of the 35 shops and restaurants within the village at Northstar. For luxury spa treatments, The Ritz-Carlton Highlands Spa has a 17,000 square foot spa featuring 16 luxurious treatment rooms, a fitness center with state-of-the-art cardiovascular and weight-training equipment, a fully integrated wellness program including spinning, yoga and Pilates, and a heated co-ed Spa lap pool overlooking the slopes.

Outside of the resort property, the area around the north shore retains much of its rustic charm versus the glitz found around the south end of Lake Tahoe. Gambling is available at Biltmore Tahoe Lodge & Casino and Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino.

Parking is of the remote lot variety, with lots sprinkled around the base of the mountain.
