One Of The Greatest Out Sports Is Skiing

Skiing is not about balls - it is in relation to balance. I have seen many friends - determined to ski off-piste or bust - persist to bang their heads against their lack of skill in anticipation, until finally they learn to do it well. Skiing is an out door sport and as such you require gear that will keep you warm and dry. Basics are ski pants (waterproof and warm), a ski jacket, gloves, a hat (toque) and thin socks. In fact several of the ski area should give some grand sport. Skiing is best in the East but the west is improving.

Skiing is a great sport but can be perilous. If you haven't had an accident on the slopes, you must know someone who has. Skiing is one of the few sports where men and women take part in teams. This is mainly because, along with golf, it is not in fact a sport but a piece of middle-class posing. Skiing is fun, so don't spoil it by taking needless risks, being banned from the mountain, or getting yourself prosecuted or tangled up in lawsuits!

Off-pisting is more than skiing, and includes learning new technique to deal with persistently changing snow surfaces, as well as safety measures. The snow is rarely light powder, but spring skiing offers very good promise and even more so if you're ready to sweat for your turns. Off-piste possibilities are different than on the Alps.

Snowboarding and skiing trick and tips

Snowboarding is very trendy and exhilarating. Snowboards can be hired in Les Houches and there are schools to teach you how to do it! Snow quality is usually superb until late in the season, as the lifts go up beyond 11,000 feet. The runs from Plateau Rosa down to the village are long and varied (Ventina piste is my favourites), as are the runs to Valtournanche.

With the winter sun, warm on the back, cast protracted shades across virgin snow and recently fallen snow glistens on the brushwood of fir trees. Snowy peaks sparkle as far as the eye can see.
