Watching a smallmouth rip through the water, grab the fly and then set out on an angry course through the water can be one of the most exciting moments when smallmouth bass fly fishing. Most experience anglers know the thrill of having this excitable and extremely strong fish lunge at the bait with the aggression that only a bass can display. Whether fishing shallow steams or lakes, smallmouth bass fly fishing can add excitement like no other fish can add.

Many fly anglers who aim only for trout may not understand the fight that smallmouth bass fly fishing can offer, until they accidentally latch onto one and they are hooked on the species. As unbelievable as it may seem, many smallmouth are taken on nymphs in shallow pools along lakes shores as well as in shallow still streams. Although it will take some adjustments in order to switch from fly fishing for trout and smallmouth bass fly fishing.

Experienced Anglers Work Towards A Known Pool

When smallmouth bass fly fishing, the experienced angler will begin downstream from any pools they believe will hold a bounty of fish. By wading directly into a school there is a good chance they will scatter and there is no way of telling in which direction they went. By starting downstream and casting back to the pool, the fish have not bee spooked and will consider most of the offerings they receive.

While it is entirely possible for trout and bass to inhabit the same pool of water, the chances of catching both species on the same type of fly is minimal. Trout seem to be more leery of some offerings that, to them, may seem out of season while smallmouth bass fly fishing offers more choices in the flies being used.
