An overview of running shorts and jackets

Running shorts:

 Almost everyone wear shorts especially while they run or workout. Ideally, there are three main categories of running shorts.  You must know that there are racing shorts, Long length running shorts and baselayer shorts. Racing shorts are ideal for road or general running. Long length running shorts are ideal for trail running as well as protect you from abrasion. Lastly, baselayer shorts are basically a part of the layering system which is worn under another pair of shorts. These are close-fitted shorts which are used for speed running.

Besides these, you can also opt for highly technical stuff. These are a part of the layering system and can be worn under longer length shorts. The inner briefs also help you to stay relaxed during longer runs. Moreover, if you put a high arches with a traditional running shorts, it can enhance the flexibility and make movement of the body parts easy.  In addition to this, high visibility running shorts keep you safe during road running, therefore, Hi Vis clothes is an important part of your running attire.

Running jackets:

Every runner needs a jacket to keep them warm. However, the jacket should be made of such material which can let the heat escape and offer breathability. Every running jacket should be breathable to keep you dry by expelling vapour and moisture to the outer layers away from the skin.

Some of the key features you should always look for in running jackets:

Running jackets should be slim to reduce bulk.

Running jackets should have drop tail design for additional coverage at the rear side.

Every running jacket should have a hood to protect you from rain.

Windproof running jackets protect your body against cold and chilly weather.

Fabrics of the running clothes:

Synthetic- it is easy to maintain synthetic and synthetic clothing are not expensive. Moreover, the wrinkle-free and non-iron design has made synthetic clothing more adaptable.

Lycra- Lycra is considered as the strongest fabric and is made from elastane and spandex which are very flexible. Lycra is abrasion resistant. Its man-made synthetic is used to add stretchable quality to the running outfits.

However, nylon, polyester and merino wool are also considered as suitable fabric.

It is important to remember that as your body sweats it is essential to remove this moisture from the skin.  Therefore, your running clothes should be either made of synthetic or Lycra as they are breathable with wicking qualities.  Your skin should remain cool and dry no matter how much you exhaust yourself through running. Please note that natural fibres such as cotton do not have the wicking capabilities and should be strictly avoided during any form of exercises. The more breathable your outfit is, the better it is for your body.
