Things To Take On A Winter Camping Holiday

2016/7/26 16:29:48

If you're going on a winter camping holiday you're much more likely to have a great time if you're prepared for virtually any eventuality. If you don't go prepared you might feel as though you're missing out and you might not be able to do some of the things that you had planned on doing. Don't let your vacation be derailed by problems like that. Instead, do your homework and prepare for your winter camping excursion beforehand. One of the main things that you'll need to have with you is at least one extra layer of clothing. Even if it's not that cold during the day, temperatures can drop quickly when the sun goes down, so don't rely only on the campfire or that lightweight jacket. Take layers that you can put on and take off easily, depending on the weather. These clothes should be either synthetic blends or wool. Cotton is a great material but it doesn't hold in heat and won't keep you as warm. Dark colours are preferable because they will collect more warmth, and you'll want to take more socks than you think you'll need. You should always have a dry pair available to you. Take a hat, scarf, and gloves or mittens, too.

Clothing isn't the only issue you'll deal with. You need to be sure you have plenty of food and water, and you'll want to store your water bottle upside down and well-sealed, deep in your backpack to keep it from freezing. Hot beverages, hot soups, and plenty of food are needed. Remember to eat often, because you can burn as much as eight thousand calories each day in the winter on a camping trip. Drink water, avoid caffeine, and take a cook stove, but remember that food takes longer to cook at altitude. The inside of your tent is important, too. Have a good sleeping bag that is well insulated, and it's not a bad idea to have a sleeping bag pad or two that can keep you from putting your bag right on the cold ground. Dress warmly and stand by the fire to get good and warm before you settle in for the night.
