2016/7/26 17:43:25

Planning ahead of a crisis will allow you to enjoy a stable life in the midst of a threatening situation. It gives you the ability to continue leading a normal life, despite the stress caused by any type of crisis that may arrive.

A food crisis, for example, causes immense suffering. Certain types of foods become rare to find, and their prices rise substantially. Therefore, given the upcoming food shortages, having a plan for long term food storage should be your top priority. This ensures that you get survival gear for the harsh period of shortage, thus boosting your quality of life.

Current statistics show that the effects of global warming could lead to severe food shortages. Droughts also continue to be experienced in most parts of the world. Additionally, the rising temperatures alter the weather patterns, which affects farm production. There are also many reports stating that FEMA has been stocking up on food, ammo and water to prepare for possible food shortages. Consequently, the need to obtain survival gear and food to store cannot be ignored.

How to Prepare Yourself

Many ways exist in which you can ensure that you are prepared for any situation. There various ways to ensure that you have the right survival gear to keep you stable during the crisis. You can start by stocking your freezer earlier when the foods can be found in abundance, and at low prices. Having a food bank for dry foods, also saves you a lot as you can accumulate foods in the bank. You can also store freeze dried foods, which is beneficial because it does not need refrigeration and lasts a long time.

In addition, you can learn how to prepare and store canned foods. Ensuring that you have access to electricity at all times preserves your food in good state. Having a generator or solar power to substitute electricity loss should be considered for foods that need a source of power to remain viable. You should always store vegetables at your basement level, as this gives a cooler temperature, which allows the vegetables to stay fresh for longer periods. Moreover, always ensure that you keep your foods free from air, moisture, and rodents. The containers used should be properly sealed. Plastic bags should be out of reach of mice to ensure the safety of the foods. Use of oxygen absorber packs help to keep moisture and keep mold away, leading to long term food storage.

Always consider the unique needs of your family before choosing what to store. Also, try and store nutritious foods which should also match the tastes and preferences of individual family members.

Benefits of Planning Ahead

Having a survival gear in the midst of a long term food shortage ensures that:
• Your family does not skip meals, leading to malnutrition
