One additional way that may prove beneficial when endeavoring to enjoy a summer camp experience is by applying for a summer camp grant. Therefore, it is important to know what a summer camp grant is and what to expect.

What Is A Summer Camp Grant?

A summer camp grant is a financial investment made by a person or organization. Generally, the grant can be awarded by these granting organizations to young people who have excelled in academics, have distinguished themselves by exhibiting leadership skills or are underprivileged.

Specifically, there are summer camp grants that are award by many civic organizations located within a city. Some of these civic organizations could include Rotary, Kiwanis, Soroptimists, etc. Usually, a student is identified who has excelled in their studies and shows leadership skills amongst their peers. Often, a specific number of these high achievers are awarded a summer camp grant to attend a leadership summer camp experience.

Therefore, it is possible that summer camp grants could be given to qualified families. Usually, the qualification is dependent upon extenuating circumstances or a lack of financial resources.

What To Expect

If an individual attends a camp there are a number of experiences that maybe realized. In addition, those experiences are based on the sponsoring group who is providing the camping experience or who may be providing the summer camp grant.

Specifically, if it is a camp to teach a young person about leadership, the theme of the camp usually follows leadersip and team building skills. For example, one such event built into the camping experience deals with being lifted high above the ground through a pulley system. Then the individual is encouraged to jump off the platform and be suspended in the air through a bunji system. The teamwork comes into play as each of the camp participants encourage one another to overcome their fear.

Also, if an individual receives a summer camp grant to attend a Salvation Army camp they will have the opportunity of being involved in a number of camping adventures. Some of those adventures could include hiking, swimming, horseback riding, etc. In addition, because of the spiritual nature of this organization, the camper will learn about the love of God.
