What Happened To The Good Old Summer Camps USA Of Yore?

It is interesting to find out how summer camps USA have evolved since the time that a person named Frederick W. Gunn first came up with the idea of summer camps in the year 1861. From its humble beginnings as a wilderness experience summer camps USA have certainly evolved and changed from the times when it all began with boys building campfires and paddling on canoes. Today, summer camps USA involves a lot more than simply camping in the outdoors and it has in fact become something of a specialty and niche segment of camping that bears little resemblance to the good old wilderness camping experiences of yore.

Many New Variations

However, the tradition of summer camps USA that began with Frederick W. Gunn has only strengthened over time and though many modern summer camps USA still embody the spirit of the campfire there are now many more variations available including films and horseback riding and adventure and even computers that keep teenage boys and girls enthralled.

There is a discernible change taking place in the summer camps USA and so it pays to keep your ears to the ground and your eye on the constantly evolving new trends that include a whole host of activities to choose from including drama and swimming and climbing ropes. For someone that has grown up and enjoyed the early summer camps USA things today will seem radically different and even the duration of the summer camps have undergone changes with short stays and also camp stays taking a few days to weeks that too is a radical departure from the original summer camps USA.

The question arises whether all these changes in the format of modern summer camps USA have brought about a positive change or not. The answer however is regrettably in the negative. All the changes that have been wrung in today’s summer camps have in fact resulted in the dampening of the spirit of camaraderie among campers and these changes have also not done the modern summer camps any good and have not helped in improving the self esteem of young campers and there is unfortunately less independence in the modern camper as well.

No doubt, kids still love their summer camps USA and look forward to them but even in spite of the fact that kids are now able to do many more things that interest them there is still a little something missing even though today the camps are of longer durations.

The bottom line is that the changing face of summer camps USA may have resulted in doing more to attract young boys and girls but has in the process also eliminated some of the core values that summer camps were so well known for.
