Youve Bought the Bike... Now What About Bike Accessories?

2016/7/25 11:38:40

Taking the plunge and buying a mountain bike feels like a big step. You've invested the money in buying the right bicycle for you, you've taken it out on a few routes in your area, and now, the likelihood is that you're hooked!

It's a great feeling, and one that you should embrace wholeheartedly; after all, few experiences can rival the thrill of racing down a hill, exploring off-the-beaten-track or heading out on your bike with a group of friends. However, in order to immerse yourself in the 'mountain bike' way of life, it's likely you'll need some decent bike accessories to go with it. The big question is: What exactly do you need?

Mountain Bike Parts, UK Exploring!

You shouldn't need to take any spare mountain bike parts UK with you, unless you're planning on going on an extended UK cycling holiday. However, it's always useful to have a spare tyre at home; as if anything is going to go wrong, it's likely to be that your tyre will tear.

However, one thing you absolutely will need is a repair kit. This is one of those bike accessories that you really cannot live without. It should include a spare tube, pump, and an emergency patch kit and tyre lever. You can buy ready-made kits, but it's easy enough to make one yourself by buying the components separately.

Fancy Cycling Jerseys UK-Style?

Of course, clothing is important when you're cycling. If you're going to get into the sport seriously, you will need to invest in clothing that allows your skin to breathe, whilst retaining warmth when you need it. However, when shopping online, remember that you don't necessarily need the most expensive cycling jerseys, UK-made sheep-wool fleeces or Olympic-style shorts. You just need what you will feel most comfortable in.

There's a wide range of clothing to select from. Think about when and where you'll be cycling most, as this will help you to decide exactly what you need.

Bike Accessories: Safety First

It goes without saying that you should have a cycling helmet, and we sincerely hope that you've bought one already! However, there are other safety issues to consider when out and about on your bike, such as eye protection. Many cyclists have had accidents in the past when they've suddenly been dazzled by the appearance of the sun over the top of a hill! A good set of cycling glasses will also prevent loose stones from flying up into your eyes.

It's also vital to invest in a good water bottle, as dehydration can be a serious problem when you're cycling hard. This is particularly important if you're going out in the wild and won't be near any villages or towns.
