Best Places For Catfishing In Arizona

The best places to fish for catfish in Arizona are not limited to only a few places. There are over fifty great places to fish for channel and flathead catfish.

With so many different areas, this article will break the waters down into parts of Arizona that have proven to be excellent for catfishing. All you need is the bait, equipment and some sound fishing advice pertaining to the right areas to fish. You can spend the entire night bringing in the catfish if you fish the right areas.

Big Roosevelt is a great catfish haven for anglers. The flatheads are known for striking the bait in an ambush style. You might not think they are watching, but when you least expect a bite, you will have one. You should look at a map of the water to find the areas where the fish sit. The catfish is a territorial fish and does have areas in this water where it will sit in wait. This has always been a great water to fish and some nice sized catfish have come from this area, but the best fishing is done at night under the stars.

The White Mountains are a great place to fish. For channel catfish, you can fish Fool Hollow Lake, Lyman Lake, Rainbow Lake, Scott Reservoir and Show Low Lake. Woodland Lake is another good place to fish if you are looking for channel catfish. You will not find any good areas in the White Mountains for flathead fishing.

The North Central located areas of the state is superb for catfish. You can fish upper Verde River for flatheads and occasionally there are some catches reported at Oak Creek. For channel catfish, you can fish Oak Creek, Sante Fe Lake, upper Verde River and Watson Lake. Other good waters are McClelland Lake, Lynx Lake, and the upper and lower part of Lake Mary, Kinnikinick Lake, Kaibab Lake and Coconino Reservoir. A few others are Goldwater Lake and Granite Basin Lake.

Mogollon Rim is another popular place. You can fish Cholla Lake, Clear Creek Reservoir, Long Lake, Soldiers Annex Lake and Tonto Creek. This area does not have any good places for fishing flatheads and the channels are easy enough to find and catch, but there are other areas of Arizona that will be more likely to produce some good catches.

Central parts of Arizona are popular for catfish fishing. In fact, this area is the best place to fish. There are more fishing holes in the central parts of Arizona then anywhere else.

You can fish for channel catfish and flatheads at Apache Lake, Bartlett Lake, Gila River, Horseshoe Lake, Lake Pleasant and Salt River Cherry Creek. If you are looking for other areas to catch channel catfish, you can fish Encanto, Kiwanis, Papago Ponds, Red Mountain and Surprise. You could also fish Rio Vista and Riverview.

Southeastern parts of Arizona area is another good place for fishing. Some of the waters for fishing flatheads and channels are Cluff Ranch Ponds, Gila River, Patagonia Lake and San Francisco River. For channel catfish, you can fish Kennedy, Lakeside, Silverbell and Sahuarite. Other great areas are Dankworth, Arivace Lake and Roper Lake.
