Best Spots and Baits for Lake Erie Yellow Perch Fishing

2016/7/16 16:38:14

The best spots and bait for Lake Erie yellow perch fishing are everywhere and anything it seems. However, some areas and baits work better. First, you should be aware of the daily limits on Lake Erie. The waters west of Huron pier on the Ohio side is twenty-five, while the daily limit for east of the Huron pier is thirty a day.

If you fish the Pennsylvania side of the lake, you can have a daily bag limit of thirty all year, but from December 1 through March 31, the length of the fish must be seven inches or larger. Any other time, there is no length limit. You must also stay away from the tributaries that are closed to fishing because they are Nursery Waters.

Michigan, New York and Canada are also good areas to fish for yellow perch. Again, the time of year and what area you are fishing plays a part in how many fish you are going to catch. Before you fish any side of Lake Erie, make sure you have a license and not the regulations for fishing. Ohio, Michigan, Canada, New York and Pennsylvania different on the type of fishing license needed. One more thing to keep in mind is that the time of year that you fish Lake Erie has a lot to do with how well the fishing will be. The best time to fish for yellow perch, jumbos that is, is in May.

Best Places to Fish

Although you can fish throughout the lakes waters, the best places are Cedar Point and Marblehead areas, Kellys Island, Bass Islands and Tyson points for the western basins. If you are fishing in the central basin, you can fish within miles of the harbor breaks and the river mouths from Conneaut to Huron. If you must fish from shore, the best time for yellow perch fishing is in the spring months during the spawn. The perch move to the shorelines for spawning before moving into deeper waters that will prevent shore fishing during the summer, fall and winter months.

Ohio is always been considered the best place to fish Lake Erie because of the amount of shoreline on the lake. You can fish for yellow perch by Port Clinton to the northwest and by the Camp Perry gun range. In Pennsylvania, you can fish by the Walnut Creek access.

You can move to the central and eastern basins from the area where you will find schools of yellow perch. You should look for the depths of water about forty-five to sixty-five feet deep. From Erie, the city, you can launch a boat and fish from the north of Presque Isle.
