Many people like catfishing. It is an enjoyable hobby as well as a lucrative business. Anglers in years past took catfishing as one of their favorite game. They were said to be one of the first species of fish to ever be caught as a sport. The catfish is a fish that grows to a large size. It is also known to be putting up a fight with the fishers. All of these are what adds up to the fun of the game.

The catfishing pole or rod as some may call it is very important to good catches and more fun. You have to take some wise steps when choosing a catfishing pole. First, decide what kind of catfish you want to catch. The nature of the fish you are after will determine the actual pole that you will use to catch them.

Once you're done with your specie preference, the next thing you need to know is the different types of catfish rod and reels available. With this, you can determine what works best for each type of fishing you are out to do. If you are new to the fishing hobby, you've got to learn the kind of fishes in your area or the place you intend to go fishing.

With this in mind, you can buy the right catfish pole for your species of catfish in your area. As you increase your fishing skills and your knowledge, you will learn more about the various species of catfish and this will motivate you to either change your choice of fish or improve on your skills and efforts in order to catch more.

Note also that the hooks you intend to use must vary in size. This depends on where you plan to fish, and the size of fishes you hope to catch: huge monster cat or basic table cat. The size you want will make you adjust the type of hook you are planning to use. You can find very good products in the market that will enable you catch the fishes you dream of catching. You need as many variation and sizes as possible so that you can easily change the hooks to fit the size of fishes you are getting while fishing.

A smaller hook will be nice for you if you are fishing for table fishes but find it hard catching catfishes. With this, run for a short distance before dropping the bait. Something like a 1/0 baitholder will be just fine. You are sure of catching good table fishes with this, but of course, you need something better for the bigger size fishes.

Sometimes you find yourself in a position where you need a long distance cast out. A 2/0 octopus is the best option for this. Use a balsa wood with this hook, and a Livingston lead Float. As you cast with this pole, it gets right down to where you wanted it to.
