Fishing is fun, but there are rules of the games that you should follow. Remember two things when you engage in this sport: respect the environment and respect the people around you. Fishing has been a part of man's daily activity since time immemorial, or it may seem and will continue to be a part of our daily activity as long as the ocean keeps providing us with edible marine life that continues to be an important part of our daily diet.

Although the methods used to fish have advanced over the years, it is the often the old ways that attract people to this old pastime. We must all remember to look after our waterways, they are one of nature's greatest gifts that should be preserved for the future generations and do not let your short term desire damage an important part of the ecological system.

Do not exacerbate any areas that have been deadly polluted by angling. As much as you have been blessed by nature's gift through the abundance of natural resources available, makes it a point to do whatever you can to preserve the lakes, waterways and rivers for the generations to come. This can be achieved simply by practicing good angling habits.

Never litter when you are fishing so always bring a trash bag or other receptacle to use for the collection of your trash. There are dumping stations provided use it. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how this little act can go a long way in preserving the environment.

Always use the right type of fishing bait and gear. Check for the number of fish and the type which you can keep. Do not wait until you have arrived to check for these restrictions. Check with your destination before you head out on your trip to see what the local regulations allow. There are rules regarding the kind of watercraft you can use, do check them.

Some places are illegal to fish but do you why? It is okay if they are just protecting the wildlife, you will probably be safe anyway but if there are some hidden unknown dangers lurking around, your decision to trespass will only prove to be a big mistake or even fatal. As with hunting, safety is always the number one issue, so wear your life jackets and make sure the passenger in your boat does the same.

Avoid making any careless mistake when hooking or removing bait, any unexpected jerks by a large fish may throw you into the icy cold water. Make sure that you never fish on unauthorized waterways always following the posted speed limits and wake warnings that accompany the use of a boat. When you are planning this type of day away remember to include other necessary items such as an adequate supply of fresh water, and all safety items maps, flashlights and cell phones.

Fishing remains to be a popular past time for many people in America, Canada and the UK. If you are one of them, take an active role to help make fishing possible for the future. Make it a point to find ways to preserve the environment and learn as much as possible to become a better fisherman.
