Lake Erie Perch Fishing Report

Since mid March the fishing talk has mostly been about walleyes. The walleye are scattered now because the spawn is over and a rash of storms have scattered them even more. Well there is another fish in Lake Erie that is fun to catch and according to some better tasting than walleye. That fish is the Lake Erie yellow perch. If you want to find out where to fish for these tasty fish just look for a Lake Erie Perch Fishing Report.

These reports will tell you where to fish, what depth to fish and what bait and or lures are working best. Just do a search for Lake Erie Perch Fishing Report and you will generate plenty of information.

When the bite is on perch fishing can be a fishermens dream come true. The bite can be fast and furious. Sometimes you no sooner get the bait in the water than a fish is on your hook. We always use a spreader that has two hooks and it is not unusual to catch two fish at a time. When they are biting like this we only keep the fish 10” and up thus giving us a really nice bunch of fish.

Perch fishing is great for kids because there is usually plenty of action to hold their interest. Keeper perch are 10” to 13” long making them the perfect size to teach a youngster how to handle a fish, take the hook out and release if you’re not going to keep it. They are also the perfect size to teach a kid how to fillet a fish.

The State of Ohio Wildlife Division awards a Fish Ohio pin for any perch 13” and up. Kids are thrilled to catch a big perch knowing they will get a Fish Ohio pin for it. Most adults are happy to get it also. The largest recorded perch for the State of Ohio was 14.5 inches long and weighed 2# 2 oz. and was caught in Lake Erie.

So the next time you are tired of chasing the walleye all over Lake Erie, read a Lake Erie Perch Fishing Report, buy a bucket of minnows and try your hand at perch fishing. We have a few spots around the islands that produce perch year after year. If you are lucky and get in a school of perch on the feed you can catch your limit of nice fish in less than an hour. You can spend the rest of the day enjoying the islands and Lake Erie
