What Kind of Saltwater Fishing Line Should You Buy?

For first time saltwater fishermen, it may seem confusing when you’re shopping for all of the gear you’re going to need for your trip. There are many different types of reels, rods, hooks and more. One of the things that may really confuse you is deciding which is the best saltwater fishing line for your trip. What saltwater fishing line should you choose if there are so many to choose from? After all, how do you know what you’re going to catch? What if you get a really big fish, like a huge tuna, and you only planned for a small one? That happens to saltwater fishermen all the time. When you’re first starting out, you should get a saltwater fishing line that’s easy to handle, nothing too thick, and something that will help you bring in medium sized fish. Save the shark fishing for when you’re a little more experienced.

When you’re first starting out saltwater fishing, it’s always best to just ask for help when you walk into the saltwater fishing store. Don’t worry if you don’t know all the ins and outs of saltwater fishing just yet. There is a lot to learn but an associate from one of the stores can show you the basics of what to buy. When it comes to saltwater fishing line, you don’t need to buy every different kind. Start with a basic test line so that you can get used to fishing first. Saltwater fishing isn’t like lake fishing. You will much bigger fish to handle and so you want to know that you have all the gear available to you to haul those big fish in. That means getting saltwater fishing line that will handle big bait that will haul in big fish.

Bait

When you go saltwater fishing, you may find yourself fishing with actual small fish as bait. These small fish are made to tempt the bigger fish to biting your hook so you can catch them. This you may know, as any fisherman does. However, if you use regular fishing line, like you’d use in lake, on this fish bait, the line may break. Saltwater fishing line is made to handle larger weights. There are saltwater fishing lines for stronger and stronger weights depending on what you want to catch but you should just start out with a basic line so that you don’t get in over your head too soon.
