Walleye Fishing In Lake Vermillion – When To Visit

2016/7/18 16:39:08

Walleye fishing at Lake Vermillion starts on May 10 and ends February 22. I would imagine every year the specific date is different, but it seems like this is the standard start and finish time for walleye season. With over 1200 miles in Shoreline Lake Vermillion is a great place to fish.

There are over three hundred island’s that account for the success of walleye fishing. They are catching some trophy walleye that has anglers from all over coming to fish. The lake itself offers a challenge for walleye fishing but it is also well known for Muskie fishing. Not a day goes by that someone does not bring on a trophy-sized fish.

There is a guide service located on Lake Vermillion called Real Time Guiding Service. The guide has over twenty years of experience machine the lake for walleye. The nice thing about fishing with John as your guide is that all you have to have is a license or fishing in Minnesota.

You can bring your own food and beverage as well as a camera and some rain gear, but otherwise John supplies the bait and all the equipment you need to have a great day of walleye fishing. John has a really nice boat that is great for fishing. You will enjoy the day whether it is a half a day or a full day of walleye fishing with John.

As walleye fishing starts off in Minnesota on Lake Vermillion, everyone is catching some fish. It seems that the water depth is not affecting the fish this year. The walleye are biting in all water depths up to forty feet. Anglers are using jigs and minnows in eight to thirty feet of water when the air is calm and Lindy rigs when there is wind.

The walleye are finding the bait and striking. Lake Vermillion does practice catch and release, but you can keep some fish for the table. This just ensures that the walleye are going to continue to grow and populate.

By Piccard Island, anglers have found that walleye fishing is great. The island area is located in section one of Lake Vermillion. If you have a map, you will see it by the Head of the Lakes Bay. For some deep-water fishing, anglers should head to Schmidts Island a little ways past Piccard Island. This walleye are deep in this area and seem to be easy to catch. You need to fish the northeast side of the island.

In section two of Lake Vermillion, the anglers are catching walleye around the Black Bay area and the Square Rock Island. There are rocky structures underwater where the walleye hide out. During the summer month’s fish around Osprey, this is located between Goodwill and Fire Islands.

There is a weedy area that runs along the area that is great for catching walleye. Then along the shorelines of Turtle Island is another good place to catch walleye. This is where bank fishing is one way to fish if you need some time out of the boat. However, by Wakemup Bay, you will find walleye during any season.
