Kentucky Lake Fishing: Camp, Fish, Hike And More For Terrific Fun In The Sun!

Kentucky is the home to two of the biggest lakes in the US and where there is water, you will find water sports. One of the favorite of these sports is Kentucky lake fishing, but surrounded by a 170 000 acre recreation area, there is a lot more going on, of this you can be guaranteed.

The Kentucky lakes National recreation area offers a ton of fun filled activities that will satisfy the outdoorsman in everyone. As well as hiking, fishing and camping there are water park adventures, go-karting, wild life spotting, boating, tubing, skiing, and lots more activities.

Down the length of the Tennessee River you will find nine reservoirs and Kentucky Lakes are the two largest. The second lake, Lake Barkley was built in the 1950's by the Engineers Corps of the US Army, and both lakes connect by a navigable canal.

Fishing and many other sports take place all through the year, winter included, but in the winter, the favorite sport is bird watching. Eagles can be spotted as well as many other migratory birds and it is a favorite spot for the more red blooded hunters, who can bag both duck and geese.

Late in the winter anglers start fishing for crappie and this season lasts well into May. These fish move around but find there way back to the shallows by April which is when Black Bass season starts. Black Bass trophy fishing is a remarkably popular activity and sees anglers getting some fantastic top water and off the embankment fishing during late summer.

For less strenuous fishing pursuits, panfish are a popular catch and bluegill is one of the favorites. Kentucky lake fishing also allows the angler to stretch their line with redear; this is one of the popular shell cracker fish. Many guides in this area will be able to take you out to fishing hot spots.

Some of the top US tournaments visit Kentucky Lakes and you will find the Bassmaster Elite Series, the FLW series, the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League and the Stren Series. There are massive b ass populations in these lakes as you can well imagine.

Because fishing for crappies in this area is also extremely popular, tournaments such as the Crappie USA tournament and Crappie Masters also visit the area. But for bigger fish to fry anglers also catch sauger, striped, yellow, white and yellow bass, blue and channel catfish as well as flathead.

Besides all the natural beauty, fishing and recreational opportunities these lakes create, they also have a very practical use and one of the jobs it performs is controlling floods on the Mississippi and Ohio and rivers. It is also a major TVA generating plant for hydroelectricity.

Seventeen million visitors flock to Kentucky Lakes annually, so they are the home to hundreds of docks, boating and fishing clubs and 2 400 miles of shoreline. This makes for and area of great natural beauty; there are 92 commercial recreation areas, state parks, county parks, municipal parks, national parks, wildlife refuges and management areas, group camps, and privately managed recreation areas.
