Take Me Fishing

Take Me Fishing

My father and grandfather were the ones that first introduced me to fishing when I was just a youngster. What a great way to connect with nature and all of its wonders. From then on, all I wanted was for someone to take me fishing.

That sealed a long and fruitful passion for me that I have kept all of my life. I will forever be missing the ones that introduced me my life’s passion, one day we will fish together again.

Fishing for me is more than just going out to catch fish and have a fish fry, much more. It is the ambiance of the surrounding countryside, the smell of the pines blowing in the wind. Just like the hawk flying overhead looking for his next meal, with laser type precision.

Getting in tune with nature, something I am afraid society has left behind in so many ways. Getting out on the lake in the morning just as the fog lifts off the lake, a spectacular site to see, it really is. Running down the lake to your favourite fishing hole, (I am not telling) with anticipation of the hunt, then outwitting the tasty morsels below.

It all holds very special meaning for me as it has taken me to so many new heights, the sensation I feel when I am out fishing is like no other I have ever felt. I am at peace with nature, in tune if you will, and myself tying life together.

Some ask what the meaning of life is, for me it is nature and all of its wonders and dangers, the 300-year-old trees in the forest, the old fishing cabin that stands on the lake for what seems to be an eternity. The peacefulness of the running stream and the sound of fish jumping, the sound of the water falls against the rocks.

Without my father and grandfather taking me fishing, what would I have become, just another city dweller I guess wondering where my food actually comes from. Not ever being able to get close to nature as I do, not being able to appreciate nature the way I do and of course no one to take me fishing.

That would have set my life on another path, the road not taken, but for me it opened up a completely new world to explore and grow.

As you see it is not just the fishing for me, it is so much more. Next time your child or grandchild say take me fishing dad remember it is more than just fishing it is so much more than that.
