Effectiveness Cast On A Beachcaster Setup

Effectiveness Cast on A Beachcaster Setup

Basic knowledge of Pendulum Cast

By far the most effective cast to use from the beach is the well known of pendulum cast. Designed for maximizing on distances for casters on the tournament field or even on the beach, this rather athletic cast which demands perfect timing, has allowed beach fisherman to consistently achieve long cast using a standard tackle and a baited hook.

The cast is made with the feet part standing on the left side on to the sea with the left foot ( assuming the caster is right handed ) at around three o`clock position and the right, upon which angler`s weight being positioned at around five o`clock. With the lead hanging on a 6-8 foot drop it is swung up the beach away from the angler at around the head height (to build up the momentum to tension the leader line) and allow to swing back the pendulum style cast ( hence the name of the cast) actually passing behind the angler at his right. To emphasize this movement the angler simultaneously pushes down on the butt with his left hand and his right hand moves the rod slightly over the right.

When the lead reaches the top of its swing behind the angler`s right ear the rod tip is swept down and around into a horizontal half circle swipe. Winding the tip up to increase sinker lead speed at its final release point which occurs once the angler pivots around and faces the sea. Weight is now transferred from the right over to the left foot as the rod is swept forward on the final stroke sending the sinker lead skywards on its trajectory towards the horizon.

This necessitates pulling down with the left hand whilst pushing firmly forwards with the right. Ideally it should be one fast, fluent, powerful yet rhythmic motion. Any sudden lurch or jerk within the cast is liable to cause either premature or late release of the lead and most certainly an instant break off or over run if u using a multiplier reel. Spinning reel are of course much more forgiving than the multiplier reels.

The best type of rod for pendulum casting is one made from a eleven and a half to twelve and a half feet fast tapered rigid, high modulus carbon rod blanks. Any cushioning which occurs during the rod`s wind up will lessen the velocity at which the sinker lead is propelled rather than like trying to fire an arrow from a bow made from a spongy garden cane.

Tight Lines Always!!
