Kermit Gets the Early Bird Bass: Prespawn Frog Fishing Tips

Kermit the frog is Dean Rojas' go-to topwater bait throughout the year.

With each tournament season, it's a pretty safe bet Rojas will have a frog or two tied on at the end of his Duckett Fishing rod.

Even if conditions on most lakes range anywhere from early prespawn on up to those first big females hitting the spring spawn time beds.

While thoughts of using a frog during prespawn seem a bit early to some, they aren't to the Dean of Froggin.

"With (early) frog fishing, it depends on what part of the country we're going to be going to," said Rojas. "We're going to start in Florida (here) in 2016 and that's always a good thing because you can always catch them (on a frog) down there in January, February and March."

Rojas, a four-time winner on the B.A.S.S. tournament trail, is always looking for a chance to throw his frog into the fishing fray.

Especially this year when he expects a really good fishing season after last year's El Nino induced deluges across much of bass country.
