Cod Roe Season: When and Where to Find It - Alaska & Norway

There is no distinct “cod roe season” because depending on the cod species and location, the period of spawning may differ considerably.

In Alaska and Canada, for instance, Pacific cod’s spawning season generally begins in January and continues until May.

Cod in northern Norway reaches sexual maturity at roughly 5-8 years of age. Here, the spawning period is between the months of January and April, with February and March being the highest volume season for “skrei” or “Arctic” cod.

Spawning usually takes place in deep, relatively warm waters below 150 meters.
