Tying the Easy Fly

2016/7/18 11:27:47

Here is an easy fly to tie that can represent anything from a stonefly to a black wasp using cheap household materials.

Take a #4 streamer Fly hook (Mustad 9672) and put base of black thread along the shank and return ¾ mark.

Cut out a piece of black foam ¼ longer than the hook and shape to form a body with a little turn up at the end. Apply some super glue along the hook and put body on top with tip up at tail. Add a few wraps of thread.

Next take a zip-lock sandwich bag and cut out your wings, right out of the zip part. Cut once and pull apart to get 2 wings.

Flare the wings a little and tie down so they lay over the tail tip. Tie off. Super glue threads. Reapply your thread about a 1/8 from eye and make a few wraps to form head. Tie off. Super glue threads.

Reapply thread in-between the head and the wings and take some kids black elastic or thread. Tie on both sides of body to make the legs and trim to size. Super glue threads.

Finally add a drop of clear nail polish on both sides of head for eyes.
