Southeast Florida Week 5 Report - March 2012

Offshore weather windows were more frequent and fishings has been good. On the troll, dorado, kingfish, BFT and wahoo were in 75-320 feet. Strip bait, bare and skirted bally hoo, produced good results. Watching for floating debris and weedlines were the key to finding the hot spots. Closer in triple tail could be found under floating debris. The sailfish bite has been heating up along with with white marlin. Live goggle eyes on a kite or balloon in moving current worked well. The swordfish bite, both on the darkside and in the daytime has been steady. Gladiators from 300- 500 pounds are hitting rigged squids, mackerals and runners.

On the reefs and wrecks, in 30- 130 feet, yellowtail snapper, mangrove and mutton snapper, good numbers of cobia, kingfish, trigger fish, amberjacks, grouper, even some in close sailfish and BFT are taking baits. Live pilchards, Squid, cut baits, sardines, tipped jigs, and strip baits were getting the bites.
Nearshore, inshore, along the beaches,piers and in the Intracoastal, spanish mackeral, pompano, blue runners, jacks, sharks, cobia, kingfish, snook and tarpon were biting good. Trapon were in the inlets with slot and huge snook around the bridges and docks at night. Live pilchards and shrimp, DOA shrimp, Gulp shrimp, gotchas, spoons and raps are producing well.
 
In freshwater, the big bass have moved out deeper and along the drop offs in the lakes and larger canals. Fishing cuts and spillways produced good results with live shiners, plastic worms, jigs, floating Raps and swim baits. As the wind dies down and the weather gets friendlier more anglers should me finding thier adventures "A Great Day For Fishing."
