The other Golden Trout

Colorado has so many species in its waters to provide a challenge for those looking to try and catch other species besides the heavily stocked rainbow trout.  Last year a long with a group of friends, we hiked into one of the wilderness areas to catch a golden trout as it was on our bucket lists. It was a success and everyone caught at least one, that blog can be found here: Prospecting for Gold!!! A picture of a golden trout: There are a few other species called ?golden trout? in Colorado and you may often find me in the forum pointing out the differences.  This weekend while walking the banks of the North Fork of the South Platte River I saw one of these trout hanging out in its feeding lane, actively feeding.  Knowing right away it was a Palomino trout I got very excited, having never caught one before.  The first drift was just to get the right amount of line out and my fly was a good 2ft away from the fish and he darted out to look at my flies but didn?t take them.  Luckily to as I had a lot of slack on the water and would of missed the hookset.  The next cast put a perfect drift through his lane and you could see him take the fly and I was hooked up.   Shortly after I netted my first Palomino Trout.  Very beautiful fish which the pictures do not do justice to because of sun position.
