Brown Trout Stocking - Ottawa River

Yesterday I was talking to a local angler in Aylmer- Quebec during what could be the first ice fishing with success on the waters (or ice) of the Ottawa River. This seasoned angler said told me about the brown trout population increase. So I decided to research about it.

I found some information in Ontario Government websites, but there is a little bit more on private webpages.
In one of the websites, I found that in the last few years Green Drake Outfitters has been actively involved in promoting, preserving and managing troutfishing in Ottawa/Outaouais region. They do this by supporting local fly fishing clubs and the Champlain Run TroutClub.

Their webpage say as well that over the years, they have stocked thousands of Brown trout in the Ottawa River, with many breeder size (2 ? 5 lb.) fish. Their budget for this year was around $5,000.00.

They have a donation program where with a contribution of $30.00m interested people could purchase a larger size brown trout with the opportunity to release it!

Every year they release over 60 breeders close to Champlain Bridge. If you are interest to help them out, please contact the CRTC at 613 -828-1915 and make your donation to Adopt-A-Trout.

Besides that, with the Ottawa Government stocking program, Rainbow Trouts are being stocked in the Ottawa River as well.

With the increase of the population of brow trouts, they can be found even close to the Aylmer Island during winter months. I hope to see the same thing happening with the rainbow trouts as well.

Hope you enjoy the information.

All the best.
