In-Line Tandem Rigs for Autumn Fishing

2016/7/18 12:21:51

Long before the Alabama Rig anglers have experimented with many techniques for rigging to entice fish to bite. The umbrella rig (Alabama Rig) had been around for years, and has been restricted for many applications in several states due to the mortality rate of fish from injuries from the multiple hooks. The rigs were also commonly used by poachers harvesting striped bass and other species by trolling the rigs.  Anglers are a creative group and they have developed many successful methods and riggings to catch fish. Many of the bass rigs are borrowed innovations from salt water anglers, and not all are a controversial as the ?A? Rig, some are considered as great innovations such as tandem rigging. Like the umbrella rig, the tandem rig is not a new concept, but modern innovation along with the media blitz of the Alabama rig has brought this type of rigging into bass fishing in increasing popularity.  There are several variations of the tandem rig, but weedless and sized just right is a key factor for successful fishing. In the fall as bait fish school up and follow the floating plankton into the backs of creeks and pockets these baits are a great choice. The tandem rig is simply two lures rigged on the same line that imitates a small school of baitfish. Pre-rigged baits such as those pictured here can be a great choice for fall bass fishing during the migration period. These soft plastic lures are rigged in such a way that they swim together in the water. Not only bass, but trout and other predator fish species that feed in schools during the fall migration and cooler winter month as the follow the bait. The tandem rig presentation doubles an angler?s chance for a hook up when fishing in these conditions. Fished on a conventional consistent retrieve or a jerk and pause, erratic retrieve, the pair of soft plastic bait fish imitates wounded and scattered baitfish that aggressively feeding fish cannot seem to resist. You no longer have to spend the time making a tandem rig. One company that provides a ready to use tandem rig is Logic Lures. Their scented in-line Tandem is enhanced with Logics own scent formula known only as? iX?, and comes pre-rigged with 30lb Fluorocarbon and is ready to fish right out of the package.  Based on their patented swivel hook technology, the two reusable lures are perfectly teamed to give the most natural schooling action that fish instinctively look for. The tungsten sound beads as well as the scent give the predators a bait that they can zone in on. The realistic action of these baits due to the swivel hooks and the lifelike 3D eyes brings them to life as they are retrieved through the water. This innovative setup will attract active bass, trout and promises to be deadly in salt water for redfish as anglers seek schools of baitfish. Cast the in-line tandem near a school when fish are feeding, Just like with other rigs, this tandem rig is best suited during the active baitfish seasons of the fall and spring, but will produce some fish all year long. There are many bodies of water that this presentation will be a new tactic that local fish and anglers have never seen before, as some would say, "Double Vision". Happy Fishing!
