Spring Lake Public Fishing Long Island

Let it be known that this is a continuation of my post on Bartlett Pond last week. The cool thing about these two ponds is that they are connected, but not directly. They are connected through pipes that connect Bartlett to ponds within Spring Lake Golf Club which then leads into the public lake, Spring Lake. Its a decent size lake, larger then Bartlett and has more shoreline to fish on. It has it's problems though. It shares it's only good shoreline with the golf club. So you need to be courteous to the golfers and aware when they are playing...trust me, some don't like fishermen, and will blame three golf balls in a row nearly killing you on the wind and a bad shoulder, so heads up, watch the guy the the metal stick and white ball. Same applies to whether you want to bring a canoe or kayak on the lake as well, just watch for golf balls, they will ruin your day. I've brought my kayak and canoe out on Spring Lake many times and have had great nights doing so. I highly encourage it. I have a video below if you would like to see some of those nights.

As far as maximum depth and fish that live in that maximum depth, it's 10 feet and there are Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Carp, and Bullhead Catfish. If you wanna know other life, there are a whole lot of frogs, toads, and turtles.

The main fish you will be fishing for here at Spring Lake will most likely be Largemouth Bass and Bluegill. We've caught bass up to 4 pounds here and continually catch bass here that are close to 2 pounds. Rarely do we have a day where we leave empty handed. The bass love rubber worms and small crankbaits. The best chances of catching a really nice bass would be to cast, well, anywhere! Honestly. Same with the Bluegill, except they prefer rubber worms, real worms, or small spinners.

Now lets talk gear. As for the rod you want to use, I use Light 6'0 rod, with 10lb braid. Like I said in the other blogs, stick with 10-25lb braided line, I've never had a problem it. You could use an Ultra Light rod, but if you hook that huge bass, it'll be just that much harder to keep the pressure on him.

JUST REMEMBER YOU ARE FISHING IN NEW YORK AND NEED A NEW YORK FISHING LICENSE!
