2012 Chesepeake Bay Striper Fishing

On May 17,2012 the gang and I loaded up for our annual trip to the Chesepeake Bay for Stripers.  Once again we met up with Captain Joe Rupp and his wife/first mate Janet Rupp at Herrington Harbor on Chesepeake Beach, to go after trophy striped bass.  The morning was cool with a nasty head wind, that was producing 3-5 ft waves at a very close intervals.  We made our way an hour out into the bay, and began to set up planer boards off both sides of the boat, we had 18 rods in the water when we finished. At this point it was beging to feel like a scene out of the perfect storm rather than a fishing trip.  The weather made the fishing very difficult, but Joe and Janet never gave up on us.  Most of the other charter boats on the water headed back to dock around 11, but we kept pushing on, hoping to finally find the bite.
Mikey was the first to hook up landing a nice healthy striper. Not long after Bill, and Stu both landed decent fish.  We trolled for about another hour before our next fish hit.  My girlfriends father Larry nailed a twenty pounder off of one of the planer lines.  We trolled another hour when the last fish of the day hit.  I grabbed the rod and began my twenty minute fight with a monster.  After a nice fight  I finally landed a twenty five pound striper.
I would personaly like to thank captain Joe and Janet for a wonderful trip and putting forth the great effort to get us on fish, even on a less than perfect day on the water.  Anyone wanting contact information for Lucky Duck Charters, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]  Until next time good luck and great fishing.
