2016/7/19 14:25:09

In recent times, the junior golf training industry has burgeoned into a big business. Hundreds of junior golf equipment, apparel and training aid companies have emerged along with college recruiting service and junior tours.

Today, there are unlimited opportunities for junior golfers to play the game recreationally, as well as, professionally. How can one plan for the development of a good junior golfer? Here are some tips:

  • Love for the game: No matter when and for what you start the kids playing the game, make sure they are having fun and coming to develop a love for the game. This is called as intrinsic motivation as opposed to extrinsic motivation, which is driven by outward factors like playing just for securing trophies. Encourage your child to be a well rounded individual with other interests, as well.

  • Teach the etiquette: One of the primary attractions of the game is its exemplary etiquette with the idea of self policing, which is not found in other games. The moral code of the game is concern for others, which will resonate throughout the life of the child.

  • Find a good instructor: Once the child has learned the core values of golf, it is time to find a good instructor. Search online and find a PGA professional in your area. There is also the option of joining a junior golf academy. Here, students can learn to improve their junior golf performance under the guidance of professionals.

  • The proper equipment: You have wide choice. Most golf equipment companies make junior sets. Studies have revealed that by learning to play with faulty equipment, young golfers develop lifelong flaws. One must go in for the proper young golfers' equipment so as not to hinder the game of the youngster.

  • A place to play: Many golf courses have special arrangements for junior golfers. They set aside special timings for play of junior golfers. Junior golf academies have extensive infrastructure to train young golfers. Of late, the US Kids Golf and the PGA of America have set up the PGA of America Family Course Program, which is organized by PGA professionals to make the game of golf enjoyable to families, irrespective of abilities or age.

  • The right apparel: Just like golf equipment, many of the manufacturers of golf clothing have collections of junior apparel. The kids are kept in mind while tailoring the clothes.

  • Realistic expectations: Do not burden your child with unrealistic expectations. There are only few golf scholarships out there. Make sure your child has good grades in other subjects, as well.

  • Dole out the praise: Your kid needs plenty of encouragement. They do not need complicated instructions- rather they will thrive with unadulterated praise.
